Mechanical Design Engineer

Excel are happy to offer this exciting opportunity for a mechanical design engineer to join a globally known leader within their field on a permanent basis, based in the south of the UK. Our client is a civilian run company who are successfully established within the military and defence industries and we are looking for an experienced design engineer to join their aviation sector to assist with various concept and modification work they carry out across multiple platforms.

The key function of this position will be supporting the design of mechanical parts, assemblies and systems along with the compilation of associated documentation for the design of new components.

Due to some new openings within the company, you will be responsible for all design phases of technical projects including management of scheduling and estimating and completion of design data. More detailed responsibilities will include, however are not limited to:

– Compilation of design and certification data and ensuring they are in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements
– Work with customers and suppliers and integrate with marketing, sales and project management within the company
– Providing design solutions to technical problems
– Generating design concepts and supporting the design engineers with design and certification packages
– Assist and liaise with the CVE throughout the design process in accordance with airworthiness requirements
– Maintain drawing and document registers

To be considered for this role, ideally you will be required (although it is not essential) to hold a degree or HND/HNC or OND/ONC in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or a proven track record of working in a related industrial industry and have a clear understanding of aircraft component or system design requirements, materials and manufacturing processes. It is important that you are an efficient user of CATIA and be capable of producing calculations in support of the design activity to be able to undertake all task required within day to day functions of the position.
